Meghalaya: CM Conrad Sangma launches CM Connect initiative to digitally empower Meghalaya

The Meghalaya government is vigorously pursuing its goal of elevating the state into a 10 billion US dollar economy by 2028.

This ambitious endeavor entails implementing a series of transformative initiatives aimed at enhancing the welfare of its citizens.

From exporting pineapples from Ri-Bhoi farms to distant European markets to nurturing potential Olympians in remote villages of Garo Hills, Meghalaya is brimming with opportunities.

These initiatives have sparked widespread enthusiasm among the people of Meghalaya, who are eager to capitalize on the benefits and opportunities offered by their government. With the launch of livelihood generation programs like FOCUS and CM ELEVATE, the volume of queries and interactions directed towards the Chief Minister’s office is expected to surge.

At the CM Connect office situated at Pdengshnong, Golflinks, the Chief Minister personally engaged with the CM Connect staff, emphasizing the importance of their role in addressing citizen grievances. He emphasized the significance of maintaining a courteous demeanor towards citizens, regardless of the challenges they may present.

Given Meghalaya’s rugged terrain and the remoteness of many settlements, accessing government services has historically been arduous for citizens, often necessitating long journeys and financial sacrifices. Recognizing the value of time, Chief Minister Shri Conrad Sangma, himself an entrepreneur, prioritizes efficiency and speed in governance.

To bridge the gap between citizens and their government, Shri. Sangma spearheaded a series of innovations, including the e-Proposal system, which digitizes the process of obtaining departmental approvals. This system has significantly expedited administrative processes, reducing approval times from days to mere hours, with over 53,000 approvals issued to date.

CM Connect represents the culmination of these efforts, serving as an omnichannel platform for citizens to voice grievances, seek information, and register their needs. This landmark initiative, accessible through toll-free numbers and WhatsApp, operates from 8 am to 8 pm daily, with plans for 24/7 availability in the near future.

Linked to senior officers across various government departments, block development offices, and district offices, CM Connect ensures that every citizen’s concern is swiftly channeled to the relevant authorities for resolution. Advanced data analytics further aid in addressing grievances and planning interventions effectively.

CM Connect is just one component of the government’s broader strategy to introduce digital services aimed at enhancing governance transparency and efficiency. Future initiatives include deploying village-level volunteers equipped with custom apps to deliver services directly to citizens’ doorsteps, thereby creating thousands of high-skilled jobs for young people across the state.

Shri. Sangma’s inauguration of CM Connect on February 15 marks a significant step towards a digitally empowered Meghalaya, poised for unprecedented growth and development.
